ROSEWOOD FOREARM & FOUR VENEERS. This is a McDermott C-11 pool cue made in the period of 1980 to 1984. The McDermott C and D series cues are some of the most highly sought after cues today. In 1980, McDermott launced the C Series. The C Series consisted of 21 models all displaying beautiful hardwoods, elaborate sleeve designs and intricate inlays. The cues featured nylon wraps standard; leather, cork and Irish linen was available as an option. These cues were widely known for their artistry and superb craftsmanship. On this particular cue, McDermott started with a Rosewood forearm with four walnut-stained Birdseye Maple points, each with four with veneers of orange, black, green and black. The detailed walnut-stained Birdseye Maple butt sleeve has six pearl notched diamond-shaped inlays set in long thin Rosewood windows between elaborate rings at top and bottom. Each set of rings is black, green, black, then a thicker piece of Tulip wood, and another set of the black and green rings. The Birdseye sleeve in this cue has lots of eyes and character as it is highly figured and has a beautiful grain. It is my opinion that the walnut stain on the Birdseye Maple really sets off the cue, so much better that the natural stained Maple of other C-11s I have seen. Also, the Rosewood doesnt seem to be as dark as some I have seen and the richness of the wood really cones out. Rosewood Forearm & Maple Points. McDermott products use the latest technology in our state-of-the-art facility, along with the finest materials in the world. The cue is in what I would call excellent to very good condition, there are a few tiny dings here and there in the forearm and sleeve. Nothing that stands out, you have to feel them as they are hard to see. There is a little clouding on the shaft joint collar. None of these affects the look or play of the cue. The butt cap is not original and was changed out at some point. It is slightly longer than the standard McDermott cap and of course, there is no McDermott clover logo. I spoke with Jayme at McDermott and if the cue was sent in for a refinish, they would be able to either replace the butt cap or emboss the green clover logo. The beauty of this cue us that the butt and shaft roll straight, both together and apart. There are no dings in the shaft at all, it is smooth as glass. The cue really has an excellent feel and solid hit, very typical of the C & D series and the McDermott wood to wood 3/8-10 joint.
