McDermott D-24 Series Pool Cue Original Condition 2 Maple & I-2 Shafts
McDermott D-24 Series Pool Cue Original Condition 2 Maple & I-2 Shafts. It is time to sell off another of my pool cues in my attempt to eliminate any and all excess possessions I have accumulated and no longer have the storage space for after moving into a small condo for retirement purposes. Here is my D-24 McDermott that I have owned for the past 15 years or so. The cue still has its original finish but the leather wrap was put on by McDermott around 12 or so years ago after I got tired of the slightly worn but permanently dirty original nylon wrap. They had just received in a large box of leather wraps when I walked in to see about getting a new wrap put on so I got my choice of the best matching one for the cue. The tone of the leather is spot on matching out with the tulipwood inlays. The wrap seam is nearly invisible. The shaft with the darkened ferrule is the original shaft. The I-2 shaft is fairly recent4 or 5 years old. All the shafts are in very good to excellent cosmetic shape for their ages. All are smooth and have no nicks or dings of significance unless examined under magnification. This cue has certainly been used, both by me and the previous owner, but I rarely shoot with it now so it is time for me to let it go. I have too many cues as it is. There are a couple of dings from use on the butt (see pictures–but the blemishes might be difficult to see). The only ones of note are a slight ding in the finish on the buttcap (no damage to the buttcap, just on the finish over the buttcaphowever, the finish is still on the buttcapthe ding just cracked the finish itself) and a slight ding below the leather wrap right at the seam edge. However, that nick existed when I first got the cue so it doesnt extend into the wrap at all. And theres the slightest bit of finish raising on the edges of a couple of the tulipwood inlays which have been there since I have owned it and havent changed or increased at all. This is only the slightest of finish raising; the original finish (assuming you treat the cue properly) isnt about to lift or peel off at all. I rarely have used this except at my own table, and took exceptional care of it, but I dont own a table anymore. In my opinion, there is no need whatsoever to consider refinishing this cue. Youll be looking a long time to find a finer example of this cue in original condition. Whether you use it as a shooter or as a display cue, its a true beauty with excellent shooting characteristics similar to all D Series cues. Diameter of 12.2 mm, thats not bad. Again, if you roll it on a pool table or look at it from the top while rolling it, you also cant see it. Thats the one I shot with the most until getting the I-2 shaft, which hasnt gotten a heck of a lot of use. The original shaft might have the tiniest of rollout when viewed from below on a granite countertop, but that would definitely be nitpicking. The original shaft also has a finish lifting on the very edge of the collar the size of a pinprick, but it is only visible under very close inspection (see pic). The I-2 is of course near perfect. 15.3 +/- oz. (Although replacements are hard to get, you can change out the weight bolts). Total Weight with Original Shaft. 19.1 +/- oz. Balance point with Original Shaft. What you see is what you get. I back my items to be in described condition only–so if more detail is needed, or my listing seems incomplete, please do not hesitate to ask questions. So damage to the cue is highly unlikely, unless it gets run over by a truck or something.
